Talking Tom – A warmer

Hello all, like me, do you also have your first period in a particular class after lunch? Out of nine periods my first period in 10th grade is after lunch. Hence, it becomes a bit challenging for me to keep my students from dozing. I take warmers often to keep students active. Following is a new warmer I conducted. Hope you will like it.

1.     Introduce them with ‘Talking Tom’ android based app
2.     Do a quick demo with a student. (Ask a student to speak something and the teacher repeats in a funny voice)
3.     Form pairs.
4.     Assign one of them as Tom and other as a cell phone user.
5.     One of them speaks something (whatever they want to but specifically only English)
6.     When one speaks the partner hears and repeats in a funny voice (not in natural voice). The voice can be of a cat, a tiger, a robot or whatever they find it funny to articulate.

After a dose of laughter and fun my kids were ready for the lesson.

Extension: You may give some specific dialogues if you want to focus on language element here.

Advantage: All the students, including less confident students, enjoy the activity.

Disadvantage: Other adjacent class may find it noisy. (But, for a minute or two I guess it’s perfect)
